24 riders rescued after being trapped on Six Flags coaster

LARGO, Md. - Twenty-four people were stuck 80 feet in the air on a roller coaster at Six Flags America in Prince George’s County.

Fire Chief Marc Bashoor tweeted rescuers initiated a high angle rescue and  have made face to face contact with the riders on the Jokers Jinx ride. He added, “This will be a long-term rescue.”

Joker’s Jinx goes 60 miles per hour along a 2,705 foot steel track. Six Flag’s website describes it as a “wild coaster experience,” with 30 vertical curves, 25 horizontal turns, and four upside-down loops.

All 24 riders were safely removed and evaluated by paramedics at the park around 7 p.m., Chief Bashoor said in a tweet.

Riders were trapped at the top of the coaster for approximately four hours.
