GERMANTOWN, Md. - Montgomery County Police say they've charged a second woman in connection with the deaths of two children in Germantown.
Early on Saturday police charged the children's mother, 28-year-old Zakieya Latrice Avery, with their deaths. She was also charged with attempted murder of her two other children. But later Saturday police said 21-year-old Monifa Sanford, who was found in the same Germantown home with Avery and her children, also faces the same charges.
Investigators learned that the women believed that they were performing an exorcism.
Police arrested Avery on Friday after she fled from police who had been called to the 19000 block of Cherry Bend Drive. Two of Avery's children, ages 1 and 2, were found dead.
Sanford and the two other children, ages 5 and 8, were hospitalized with injuries. Police say Sanford was arrested after being released from the hospital.
