Joan Rivers' life of laughter not always smooth

Comedienne Joan Rivers’ sharp wit and uncensored tongue made lots of people throughout the world laugh.

But Rivers’ experienced her share of pain throughout her 81 years of life. She died Thursday, according to The Associated Press. 

Rivers experienced sizzling success in the 1960s when she turned made her first appearance on the “Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson. She published her first book in 1974 and became the permanent guest host for Carson.

She got her own show from Fox in 1986, but what seemed to be a big break turned into a heartbreaking disaster as the show was canceled a year later, her relationship with Carson soured and her husband, Edgar Rosenberg, committed suicide.

Rivers turned her life around following the tragedy. She became an award-winning talk show host, authored many more books and one of the leading celebrity interviewers.
