ABC2’s own Christian Schaffer will officially start your day as the new co-anchor for “Good Morning Maryland.”

Christian will join Ashley James for the morning newscast airing weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

A Maryland native, Christian has worked as an anchor and journalist with WMAR since 2006. He’s reported on a host of major stories in the area, including the post-conviction hearing of Adnan Syed, the unrest following the death of Freddie Gray and ABC2’s inside look at heroin addiction in Maryland.

“Christian has been covering stories in Baltimore for 10 years as a reporter for WMAR ABC2,” said Kelly Groft, news director at WMAR ABC2. “He now brings his diverse news talents and knowledge of not just Baltimore, but Maryland as a whole, to viewers of Good Morning Maryland.”

Before joining the ABC2 team, Christian worked as a reporter in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and as a news producer in Boston, Richmond and Greensboro, North Carolina.

He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Richmond and a master’s in broadcast journalism from Boston University.

Welcome, Christian!
