President Donald Trump gave a press conference at the White House on Thursday, in which he defended his presidency and slammed reports that his campaign advisers had inappropriate contact with Russian officials.

He also accused Rep. Elijah Cummings of canceling a meeting with him.

"I actually thought I had a meeting with Congressman Cummings and he was all excited," President Trump said. "And then he said, well, I can't move, it might be bad for me politically. I can't have that meeting."

President Trump then went on to say he was probably told "by Schumer or somebody like that, some other lightweight. He was probably told - he was probably told 'don't meet with Trump. It's bad politics.'"

Rep. Cummings responded to the claim in a statement, saying President Trump made up the story.

"I have no idea why President Trump would make up a story about me like he did today," Rep. Cummings said. "Of course, Senator Schumer never told me to skip a meeting with the President."

President Trump made the claim after a black reporter asked him whether he would be meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus soon. He said there are no plans to, but he would love to meet with them. Then he asked the reporter to set up a meeting for him. That's when President Trump brought up Rep. Cummings.

Rep. Cummings said he does want to meet with the President about an increase in the price of prescription drugs.

"The skyrocketing price of prescription drugs is an issue that affects every American family, not just people of color," Rep. Cummings said. "And I hope the President will make good on his promise to finally allow HHS to negotiate lower drug prices on behalf of American families. I look forward to meeting with him on this issue and others."
