COLUMBIA, Md. - The Zumiez store at Columbia Mall will reopen in mid- to late May, a spokeswoman for the mall said.
Zumiez has been closed since 19-year-old Darion Aguilar opened fire inside the mall on Jan. 25, killing two store employees, 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson, before he turned the gun on himself. The mall doesn’t have a specific date for the store’s reopening.
Last month, Howard County police released new details of the case, portraying Aguilar as someone with mental issues and a fixation on the 1999 Columbine High School shootings.
Police said Aguilar waited inside the mall for more than 40 minutes after being dropped off by a cab, and believe he may have been waiting to begin his shooting at the same time that the Columbine massacre started.
