COLUMBIA, Md. - The Zumiez at The Mall in Columbia reopened Monday at 10AM.
The skate shop has been closed since 19-year-old Darion Aguilar opened fire inside the mall on Jan. 25, killing two store employees, 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson, before he turned the gun on himself.
Zumiez management released a statement saying the remodeled store quietly recognizes the victims with tiles that bear their initials.
"After consulting with our employees and the victims' families, we decided to completely remodel and reopen the store. We all continue to keep the victims and their families in our hearts and, together, remember and honor them in many ways,” the statement reads. “The tremendous love and support for all those impacted is incredibly powerful. Indeed, people continue to make contributions to the two memorial funds established in honor of Tyler and Brianna.”
