Ulman to sign order creating mental health task force

COLUMBIA, Md. - Howard County Executive Ken Ulman will sign an executive order Wednesday in Columbia creating a Behavioral Health Action Plan Task Force after a review of mental health needs in the county.

Ulman will also lead a round table discussion on mental health issues with stakeholders who will be a part of the task force.

The discussion will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, 6700 Freetown Road in Columbia.

County officials looked into the mental health services available following the double murder-suicide at The Mall in Columbia in January.

Ulman’s 2015 budget includes funding for new mental health programs, including a second full-time Mobile Crisis Team for the Howard County Mental Health Authority and a new employee in the county police department who will focus solely on mental health cases.
