COLUMBIA, Md. - Two people are dead and one is critically hurt after a deadly three car crash in Columbia Sunday morning.
The crash happened at around 5:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 at exit 41.
Maryland State Police said a Toyota 4Runner broke down in the northbound lanes of 95. A passenger got of the car to examine the problem and was hit by an Acura passing by. A Jeep then hit the disabled 4runner and both vehicles caught fire.
Both passengers in the 4Runner were pronounced dead at the scene. Another person was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Insterstate 95 North at exit 41 was shut down for almost five hours during the investigation and cleanup. It has since reopened.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
