Howard County Police released the 911 calls placed during the historic flooding in Ellicott City.
In one call, a woman describes the scene while trapped inside of a building on Main Street with a group of people. The woman, and others in the background, can be heard screaming as flood waters push in through the floor.
“The building is buckling and there’s water on the inside. We can feel the building crumbling a little bit,” she says, before the group locates an exit to higher ground through a back door.
Another call is placed from Portalli’s restaurant on Main Street. The man tells the operator that at least 100 people are trapped inside as flood waters rise “all the way to the top floor” with nowhere for anyone to go.
Others reported being trapped inside of homes and businesses in the area facing rising flood waters, and witnessing cars rush by.
Two people died and more than 100 people were rescued Saturday night after six inches of rain fell in just two hours, causing massive flooding in Ellicott City.
Residents and officials are still working to restore the area.
