Oakland Mills High School students walked out of class in response to hateful speech on campus Wednesday.

The protest was planned after recent racial threats in the Howard County School System.

Some students said they fear for their safety and created a petitionto change that.

In the proposal, students said when a threat is made towards anyone in the school system, a notice should be sent out.

According to a schools spokesman, the students had a peaceful demonstration in the football stadium for one period, and then returned to class.
