Laurel police charge two men in home invasion, kidnapping

Two men were arrested following a traffic stop Tuesday in Laurel in connection with a home invasion and kidnapping.
Laurel police said Donte Powell, 27, from Washington D.C. and Douglas Mention, 26 from South Carolina, will be charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and weapons related charges.
Police said at approximately 1:16 a.m. Tuesday, an officer saw a vehicle without its headlights on and traveling in the wrong direction of a one-way street in the 700 Block of Fifth St. Police tried to stop the vehicle, which continued on Fifth St. making an illegal right turn onto Talbott Ave. along Route 198, traveling in the wrong direction
As the vehicle slowed down to turn right onto Route 1, an naked individual jumped out of the moving vehicle's passenger side. As police approached the nude person, the pursuit continued into the Laurel Shopping Center and then turned north onto Route 1.
Police said the driver then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into three parked cars at the Car America Dealership, located at 10052 N Washington Blvd. The car came to rest upside down against a telephone pole.
Powell and Mention were injured from the accident with one being transferred to Shock Trauma and the other to Laurel Regional Hospital.
Police said the person who jumped from the vehicle was the victim of a kidnapping and armed robbery.
