The Federal Delegation for Howard County is calling for the resignation of Sheriff James Fitzgerald following a report that alleges he used racist language and created a hostile work environment.

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski along with U.S. Representatives Elijah Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes said they sent a letter to Fitzgerald asking him to step down.

"We hope you will do the right thing and allow the Howard County Sheriff's Office to heal and move forward with new leadership that can demonstrate respect fro all law enforcement and the entire Howard County community," They wrote in the letter.
