A Howard County Animal Control shelter is closed until June 19 after an outbreak of ringworm, according a release from the Howard County Police Department.
The Columbia shelter, located at 8576 Davis Rd., will be cleaned and will remain open to respond to complaints and conduct other business. The animals that are experiencing symptoms of ringworm are receiving treatment, surfaces are being disinfected, and toys and bedding are being removed, officials said.
Animals that have potentially been exposed to the infection are being tested and will undergo treatment if they yield positive results. Testing results are expected in seven days, according to the release.
