ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland Department of Agriculture says a horse stabled in Howard County has tested positive for the non-neuropathic form of equine herpes virus.

The department said in a news release Wednesday that the diagnosis was confirmed Monday at the Frederick Animal Health Laboratory. Officials say the horse was euthanized by a private veterinarian.

Agriculture officials say the farm, which was not identified, is under a 30-day investigational hold. Authorities say biosecurity measures are in place and inspectors are performing additional tests.

Stables near the one where the sick horse was kept are being notified and owners are urged to monitor their horses.
