ELKRIDGE, Md. - A firefighter and police officer sustained minor injuries while fighting a house fire in Elkridge Tuesday morning.

Firefighters and paramedics from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were called to the 7300 block of Montgomery Road around 1 a.m. Tuesday in response to a house fire in that block, according to a fire department spokesman.

When they arrived, crews found flames coming from the back of the house and started attacking the fire and searching the house for occupants.

Forty-five firefighters from Howard, Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties controlled the fire within 45 minutes, fire officials said.

One firefighter was injured while putting up a ground ladder, but the injuries were minor. A police officer was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
