COLUMBIA, Md. -
Nine people were displaced and a firefighter was hurt during an apartment fire in Howard County.
The two-alarm blaze happened around 4 a.m. Saturday morning in the 9300 block of Indian Camp Road.
Firefighters arriving at the scene encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions and flames leaping through the roof. It took about 60 firefighters close to an hour to bring the fire under control.
Nine residents of the two apartment affected escaped the fire without injury. Fire officials said there were working smoke alarms in the units. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
Authorities said one firefighter suffered a minor leg injury and was taken to Howard County General for treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
