White House staffer killed in bike crash

The bicyclist involved in fatal car crash in Mt. Airy Saturday evening has been identified as a White House staffer and Ride to Conquer Cancer participant.

While riding along a sharp curve westbound on Old Frederick Road the bicyclist lost control and crossed the double lines.

A Honda Pilot, driving eastbound, crashed into the bicyclist while entering the curve.

The driver, 51-year-old Kenneth Michael Griffin of Mt. Airy, was not injured.

The bicyclist, 34-year –old Jacob Thomas Brewer of Alexander, Virginia, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Brewer was the senior policy adviser in the Office of the Chief Technology.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer foundation and The White House have expressed their sadness and condolence.
