A family is displaced after a fire in Howard County Saturday night.

Police were called to the 10900 block of Rum Cay Court in Columbia for a reported house fire.

Fire fighters of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were able to extinguish the fire in 15 minutes.

Two adults were present at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate the home before the arrival of emergency personnel.

Medics evaluated both adults for smoke inhalation.

The house is severely damaged, therefore the two adults will shelter with family members.

Officials say one firefighter sustained non-life threatening injuries during the incident and was transported to Howard County General Hospital.

The fire incident is under investigation by the HCDFRS Fire Marshal’s Office.
