A major phase of repair work to help prevent more devastating flooding in Ellicott City begins Monday.
Crews will build new walls to keep water out of the city's most vulnerable areas.

Work will begin between next to the courthouse between two major parking lots.
A stream channel wall, which keeps water out of the downtown area,will be rebuilt.
Work will continue every day though April from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays..
Ellicott City has been recovering from the deadly floods that swept through the area July 30.

Temporary patches have been put in place to prevent flooding, but this permanent fix has been in the works for a long time.
Ellicott City is getting help from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Services to help pay for the repairs.
The construction is not expected to cause traffic problems, but will close the walking path between Lot F and Court Avenue near the courthouse.
