COLUMBIA, Md. - Howard County Police say four animals that were found abandoned in a Columbia home last month are now up for adoption.
Two cats, a gerbil, and a bearded dragon lizard were found in the home in the 9600 block of Lambeth Court on January 16th, but 40 dead animals were also found.
The four pets up for adoption now, survived despite being without food or water for more than a week.
The pets have been recuperating and getting veterinary care, and now they're ready for adoption.
The cats, a male purebred chocolate point Siamese cat and a female purebred chocolate point Siamese cat, a female adult white gerbil, and a female adult bearded dragon lizard are all available for adoption.
The Howard County Animal Control and Adoption Center would prefer the cats be adopted together, and they have received an application for the lizard.
The adoption center can be reached by phone at 410-313-2780, and they're open every day of the week except Sundays.
Police are still waiting for a laboratory to determine how the 40 animals died, so that they can figure out who was responsible for their care.
No charges have been filed yet.
