Police say the two people killed when they were hit by a car while fighting in the middle of U.S. Route 1 in Elkridge were an 18-year-old woman and another woman who's believed to be transgender.
Howard County police identified one of the victims on Sunday as 18-year-old Delcy Martinez Hernandez of Elkridge.
Police said that on Saturday night after 11 p.m., 22-year-old Zachary Jordan Tillett of Elkridge was traveling southbound on Route 1 approaching Port Capital Drive in a 2002 Honda Civic when he hit two women who were on the ground in the road.
Police say according to a witness account, the two women were fighting in the travel lanes of the road. Both were taken to Shock Trauma, where they died.
Police are trying to identify the second victim, who's believed to be an African American transgender woman in her 20s from the Philadelphia area. She’s described as having shoulder length black hair and a wrist tattoo that reads ‘Sina’.
Neither Tillett nor his passenger, 20-year-old Rachel Elisabeth Aymold of Catonsville, were injured. No charges have been filed.
Route 1 was closed between Route 175 and Montevideo Road for three hours.
The incident is still under investigation.
