Security experts recommend avoiding urban areas

BEL AIR, Md. - Less than 24 hours after the bombing in Boston, the Harford County School System canceled a number of field trips.

Harford Technical High School's trip to New York City, Bel Air Middle School's visit to Aberdeen Proving Ground and an elementary school's plans to travel to Washington D.C. were all put on hold as a precautionary measure.

School System Spokeswoman Teri Kranefeld told ABC 2 News the decision came after the Harford County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security advised against school trips to large urban areas or military installations until more is learned about the Marathon attacks.

Other trips to smaller venues went on as planned.
