EDGEWOOD, Md. - Officials are cleaning up rivers and creeks near Aberdeen Proving Ground after nearly 2 million gallons of sewage overflowed in the heavy rain Wednesday.
The spill happened after rain water caused 1.8 million gallons of partially treated sewage to overflow tanks at the treatment plant.
The sewage flowed into King's Creek and Bush River and officials put lime down in the area to try and clean up the mess. They also posted signs restricting fishing, swimming, crabbing and shellfish harvesting in the area.
Experts will continue to monitor the area to see if more needs to be done to finish the clean up.
