Harford County teachers and members of the community are expected to hold a rally and march in Bel Air Tuesday in protest of proposed cuts to education funding and teacher salaries.
The march, which is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. outside Bel Air Elementary School, will wind from the school to county council offices in advance of the regularly scheduled Harford County Council meeting at 212 South Bond Street.
The rally is in protest of proposed increases to elementary school class sizes, teacher salary cuts and education funding cuts, according to the Harford County Education Association, the union representing the county’s teachers.
Participants in the rally also plan to attend the council meeting at 7:30 p.m. to let local officials no where they stand on these issues.
This is not the first rally of its kind in recent years.
In May 2012 Harford County teachers participated in protests that packed county council meetings in a push for better teacher pay.
