Suspect dead in deputy involved shooting

Harford County Sheriff's Deputies were involved in the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old male in the 300 block of Althea Court in Bel Air. 

Patrol deputies responded to the report of a suicidal subject at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact by personal contact and phone.

After 30 minutes of attempting to engage the subject, he left through a rear exit of the residence and fired a gun, causing deputies to take cover. The suspect then retreated back inside the residence. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Members of the Special Response Team with assistance from the Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to negotiate peace with the subject.

After numerous attempts to negotiate, the suspect exited the residence in the direction of the deputies. He actions caused Harford County's Sheriff's Deputies to be in fear of their personal safety and that of the surrounding community. The deputies fired at the suspect, fatally wounding him. 

No deputies or civilians were injured during the incident. 

Investigators are conducting a comprehensive investigation of this incident. The deputies involved have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
