As Harford County community members came together to pay their respects to two fallen sheriff's deputies, parents said they struggled to explain the violence to their children.

One mom, talking to ABC2, said tough questions remain.

"I've been there once, and I don't think I'll ever go back," one mother said of the Panera were the killings occurred. "It happened very close to home."

Another mom, who said she was a good friend of sheriff's deputy Pat Dailey, brought her daughters to pay their respects Thursday. The girls brought a teddy bear with handcuffs and a sheriff's badge, which they left at the memorial on Pulaski Highway.

"He was such a sweet man," the mom said through tears.
