A push to build a Muslim retirement community in Harford County has been suspended.

The Joppatowne Housing Community project had caused some controversy, with some feeling the development was marketed as Muslim-only housing.

Those in the Muslim community say that's not the case, and they want people to ask questions while getting to know their neighbors and other cultures.

"We believe that the best way to win hearts is and to unite mankind is to open your doors, make people comfortable around you, share their values and respect their cultures and open your doors and make them feel welcome," said Abdullah Dibba.

A Rosedale mosque held an open forum meeting on the development project Monday night.

The mosque hopes to hold several other meetings this year.
