A Columbia man died Tuesday afternoon after driving off the road and hitting another car.

According to troopers, Jeffrey Vande-Ryt, 48, was driving a Ford F-250 pick-up truck north on Mountain Road, in the area of Reckford Road Park.

For reasons that are unknown, Vande-Ryt drove onto the shoulder and then off the road. The truck continued to drive along Mountain Road in the grass drainage, when it hit an Infiniti SUV that was stopped and preparing to turn.

Vande-Ryt was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Infiniti, Martina Rambal, 39, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by a state police helicopter.

No reports have been released on Rambal's condition.

Mountain Road was closed for three hours after the crash.
