When you go to Independent Brewing Company, in Bel Air, Maryland, you’ll find 22 beers on tap, food trucks during the week and plenty of windows letting the light in.

You’ll also probably find Phillip Rudy, Independent’s “Chief Fermentation Officer” and founder.

Craft beer has a huge presence in Maryland. Check out other stories about Maryland beer here.

Rudy and his team turned his home-brew operation into a taproom in October 2015.

And now, just under a year later, Independent is still going strong in Bel Air. A point of pride for Rudy is that all of their beers are gluten free. Every few months, they have local artists cycle their work through the building—so the community is supported and the bar gets some fresh décor.
