Police: Deadly I-95 crash was suicide

ABERDEEN, Md. (WMAR) - All lanes of northbound I-95 were closed Friday night at mile marker 85.6 due to a deadly pedestrian accident.

Maryland State Police say the accident happened just before 9:00 p.m. on the left shoulder of the northbound lanes at about Churchville Road.

A woman now identified as 46-year-old Christine Elizabeth Eldin, was walking in the left should when she was hit and killed by a car.

Police say letters found in Eldin's car indicated she was on the interstate to commit suicide and she intentionally stepped into oncoming traffic to do so. There were no mechanical defects discovered in her vehicle warranting her to stop.

The driver of the van that hit her was taken a local hospital after he sustained minor injuries.
