Harford County school officials say they've lifted their ban on field trips and other school-related travel into Baltimore City.

School officials, who made the announcement Monday, say they changed their minds after consulting with law enforcement and city lawmakers.

The school system initially banned travel to the city after the unrest following the April death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who was fatally injured in police custody.

The ban was reinstated as the trials of the six Baltimore police officers charged in connection with Gray's death began in December.

Harford County schools Superintendent Barbara Canavan says in a statement that they make a weekly determination about whether it's safe for students to travel, both domestically and overseas.

Canavan says student safety is and will remain their first priority.
