Family: Ripken's mother was kidnapped at gunpoint

ABERDEEN, Md. - Vi Ripken, the mother of Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken, Jr., was kidnapped at gunpoint Tuesday morning, according to the family.

She was found in Aberdeen, evaluated on the scene and refused medical treatment.

She is now home with family.

The family released this statement. 

"As you now know, our mother was abducted at gunpoint from her home yesterday morning. This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy. We want to thank everyone for their tremendous support, especially all of the law enforcement agencies that worked so hard and quickly. This is on ongoing investigation, so we hope everyone understands that we cannot comment further at this time. Thank you."

Baltimore icon Cal Ripken Jr.'s mother is missing.

Baltimore County Police say they are looking for 74-year-old Violet Roberta Ripken.  Her car, a silver 1998 Lincoln Towncar, is also missing.  The car, with Maryland registration SMR308, was last seen on Ebenezer Road in Essex around 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Ms. Ripken is 5'5" and weights 135 pounds.  Police say she may be wearing a white blouse.
