Bel Air teen charged as adult for allegedly killing his mother

The Harford County Sheriff's office charged a Bel Air teen as an adult in connection to the death of his mother.

Early Monday sheriffs identified Andrew Zaragoza, 16, as the suspect in the death of his mother, Donna Zaragoza, 56.

According to detectives July 20 around 6:30 a.m. sheriffs responded to a suicide threat at a home in the 1000 block of Jeanett Way. When deputies arrived to the home, they discovered Donna on the second floor. It appeared she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Andrew was in the upstairs bathroom refusing to respond. Deputies were able to convince him to leave the bedroom. The teen was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening self-inflicted wound.

The teen suspect is charged with the following:

  • First and second degree murder
  • First and second degree assault
  • Use of a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure

Currently Andrew is being held at Harford County Detention Center.
