Families waiting for July 4th fireworks in Bel Air were treated to a show they're used to seeing during the other half of the year: Jim Kurtz's light spectacular.
"It's pretty cool when you see the little kids faces light up," Kurtz said.
Kurtz is famous for the holiday light show that started at his house and moved to St. Matthews Lutheran Church on East Churchville Road.
This year, Kurtz broke out 2,400 of his lights to celebrate the nation's birthday.
"It's also kind of a waste to have 80,000 lights up there doing nothing when we could put them to good use," he said.
The lights flashed red, white and blue in patterns synced up to patriotic tunes. Mesmerized kids and families gave it two thumbs up.
Jordan Engle called it "fun. awesome. exciting."
His mom, Wendy Tilmes, was happy to have a little more time to celebrate before fireworks lit up the sky.
"It's just wonderful to see all the happy faces and all the kids enjoying it," she said.
Despite the summer sun and hot temperatures, Kurtz's wife, Helen, says the family is already looking ahead to the holiday season.
"This is a nice segue into Christmas even though its July, so he's pretending it's Christmas in July," she said.
