An Aberdeen Police officer was released from Shock Trauma after being hit by a car just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police, the officer, Cpl. Gentile, was responding to a crash along West Bel Air Avenue, and had part of the road blocked off.
A driver turned left off of Beards Hill Road and drove into the blockade, hitting Gentile.
The driver stayed on the scene.
A medevac unit rushed Gentile to Shock Trauma with injuries to his head and lower body.
Police said charges are pending against the driver.
According to the Aberdeen Police Department, Gentile is a nine-year veteran of the department. Prior to his service in Aberdeen, he retired from the Baltimore City Police Department after 25 years.
A department spokesman said Gentile is well-known, and many residents call him Officer Bunk when they see him at local IronBirds games, where he is a fixture.
The incident is under investigation in the Harford County Police Department.
