There is always a bit of trepidation when you buy something over the internet and then need to meet the seller to finish the deal.
To make the final transaction more comfortable for all parties, the Aberdeen Police Department created an E-Commerce Safe Exchange Zone.
The department is opening its lobby to people looking to do business while lowering the chance for the deal to end in a robbery or worse.
"The E-Commerce Safe Exchange Zone is something that's happening nationwide. We weren't aware of any in our area. We thought it was something important for the citizens to have," said Aberdeen Police Sgt. Shannon Persuhn.
All you have to do is go to the station, let the Police Communications Officer know you're there to conduct a transaction, and make your sale. The lobby is video monitored and the PCO will create an event record that documents the transaction.
The department says it's not responsible for assisting in any part of the sale. It just wants to create a safe space for people to do business. It adds that weapons, contraband, drugs, stolen items, and anything considered dangerous is prohibited from entering the station.
