The family of a mother and her 4-year-old killed in a crash in Bel Air over the weekend have asked for privacy and space to grieve.

The community took to Facebook to express their condolences on posts written by family members, including the 16-year-old who survived the crash.

Michael Boulan was a passenger when the family's car hit a tree in the median near Boulton Street in Bel Air.

His 47-year-old mother, Stacy Rena Pell-Boulan, and 4-year-old sister, Caitlyn Boulan, died in the crash.

His post, which was originally public, was made private on the social media site on Monday.

"This is too painful for my nephews. In a world of social media it is too painful for my family. It is too painful for my brother. Please give us the space and dignity to let us grieve as a family," Dawn Slagle, a spokeswoman for the family, said in a statement.

Police said the family's car turned from Boulton Street to Bel Air Road trying enter the lane closest to the median Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle hit the curb twice before entering the median and crashing into a tree. There were no other contributing factors in the accident, according to police.
