Police investigate woman's body found in water near truck crash

The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff is investigating after a truck was found driven into the water at Wharf Drive in Chester and a woman’s body found in the water nearby.

Police say around 8 a.m. Sunday, emergency responders were called to the area off Route 18 on the Chester side of Kent Narrows where the County Docks are located.

Police believe early Sunday morning, the truck was driven off the end of the road, breaking a large bulkhead, striking part of the old railroad trusses and landing partially submerged in the water.

A body of a woman was found in the water nearby however police are not sure if she were the sole occupant of the truck. Police say the woman is from Kent Island; her body is being sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. According to a release, the investigation included members from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff Department, Maryland State Police, the Department of Natural Resources and the Coast Guard dive team.
