Motorists ready for traffic heading to Ocean City

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - With more than 300,000 cars heading over the bay bridge this Memorial Day weekend, thinking that your trip to the beach will be without problems is almost laughable.

Most of us have done the Route 50 dance that include sitting and stoping then moving, sitting and stopping and moving,  then sit again as traffic continues to build

Traffic officials say the best time to cross the Bay Bridge for the holiday is after 10 Friday and before 7 a.m. Saturday.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says more than 7,000 cars will get stranded on Maryland highways this holiday weekend.  So if you don't want to be one of them, make sure your car is in good order before making the run to the beach.

Also, try filling up when you get to the Eastern Shore. Gas is about 13 cents cheaper in Salisbury than it is in Baltimore.

In addition, if you’re going to the northern beaches of Ocean City or Rehoboth, you might take Rt. 404. The State Highway Administration announced this week an almost $50 million plan to widen 404 between Rt. 50 and the Denton bypass.

It will not help this summer but it should have advantages in the future.
