Hundreds join together in remembering local teens

KENT ISLAND, Md. (WMAR) - Greeted by a huge flag hoisted by the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, hundreds of students, parents, and community members filed into the football stadium at Kent Island High School for one reason: to work through this together.

On a night too cold and windy for candles, they tried to work through a crash that's devastated four families.

Wednesday afternoon, police say a Volkswagen driven by  18-year-old Cory Pessagno of Chester was heading north on cox neck road; investigators believe speed was a factor.

The Volkswagen struck another car, and went off the road.

Killed in the crash were 19-year-olds ,Tyler Elzey and Michael Ringerbach,

And 18-year-olds Cory Pessagno-- the driver- and Harrison Smith.

All four graduated from Kent Island High School last year.

The crowd moved on to the football field after the vigil - many of them remaining long after it ended.

"I think tonight is a sign of the unity within our school and really the role that our school plays within our community both are very close and both are supportive of each other," John Schrecongost, Kent Island High School Principal, said.
