CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md. (WMAR) - Police in Cecil County are trying to identify a man who approached a 7-year-old girl and her 71-year-old babysitter in Chesapeake City Wednesday telling the pair that he was looking for children who want to see his talking parrot.
The man approached the two at about 2:30 p.m. as they walked on the sidewalk near Bohemia Avenue and 3rd Street driving a light blue or tan van. He was only described as having a grayish beard and hair.
The child's babysitter thought the man seemed odd, and grew leery as he spoke. The woman whisked the girl away and then reported the incident to police.
Sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Michael Holmes says that when they looked into the van they "could see that he did have a parrot. The bird was on a fixed perch in or near the driver's seat."
Before the two walked away, the man told them that he lived in Delaware but had a relative who lives in Chesapeake City.
While no crime has been committed, police would like to speak with him to determine his intent in the encounter and to see what he was planning to do.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 410-392-2116.
