Officers from 3 departments fired shots in Cecil County police-involved shooting

A state trooper, Cecil County sheriff's deputies and Elkton police officers all fired weapons in a police-involved shooting Tuesday, state police said. 

Two fugitives from Delaware, Brandon Jones, 25, and Chelsea Porter, 25, were killed in the shooting at the New Eastern Inn after they refused directions to surrender, and pointed guns at officers.  

Both were wanted by Delaware State Police on warrants charging them with multiple felony gun and drug offenses.

The Maryland State Police trooper who fired is identified as Sgt. Michael Bonczewski, assigned to the Criminal Enforcement Division, state police said.

He is a 10-year veteran of the Maryland State Police and works on the Maryland State Apprehension Team, which tracks and arrests criminal fugitives throughout the state. He has been placed on routine administrative leave.

Three deputies from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office and six officers from the Elkton Police Department also fired their weapons.

The three deputies who fired are identified as Dfc. Martin Allen, an 18-year veteran of the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Jonathan Pristash, an 8-year veteran and Cpl. Michael Zack, a 13-year veteran. The deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave.
