Students at Westminster High School in Carroll County raised more than $5,000 to to print T-shirt of images banned from the school.

The school district said posters in the same style as an election poster of former President Barack Obama made a political statement and violated the district's policy.

The posters are part of a collection called "We the People" and are meant to celebrate diversity in the U.S.

They were used during the Women's March last month.

A GoFundMe page raised $5,065 for the students to make T-shirts with the banned images which they will wear to school on March 1. The surpassed their goal of $4,000 and the GoFundMe page is no longer accepting donations.

The page emphasizes diversity. It reads: "Celebrating diversity in our community is not a political statement. We trust our CCPS teachers to promote an environment in our schools where all students feel safe and encouraged"

Updates on the event are available on the We the People WHS Twitter page, which calls itself "a non-partisan group dedicated to standing up for multiculturalism, diversity, and acceptance."
