According to Metropolitan Police Department, Richard Michael Ridgell is one of the final five victims to be positively identified as being killed during the rampage by gunman Aaron Alexis. Alexis was killed by officers during a gun battle.
Ridgell, a retired Maryland State Trooper, is a married father of three daughters. His family told ABC2 News that Ridgell was a huge Ravens fan and worked as a security officer at the Navy Yard. He had previously spent three years in Iraq as a contractor. The family said they found out about Ridgell's death at about midnight, but had few details of how he died.
Ridgell, who was born and raised in Brooklyn Park, is survived by his wife Tracey and daughters, Heather Hunt and Maddi and Megan Ridgell. He is also survived by his parents Shirley and Richard Ridgell; a brother, Todd Ridgell and grandmothers Rose Ridgell and Wanita Ware.
The other four victims identified Tuesday by MPD were: Arthur Daniels, 51, of Washington, 51 year-old Mary Francis Knight, 51, of Reston Va.; Gerald L. Read, 58, of Alexandria, Va. and Martin Bodrog, 54, of Annandale, Va.
Other victims included Michael Arnold, 59, of Lorton, Va.; Sylvia Frasier, 53 of Waldorf; Kathy Gaarde, 62, of Woodbridge, Va.; John Roger Johnson, 73 of Derwood, Md.; Frank Kohler, 50, of Tall Timbers, Md.; Kenneth Bernard Proctor, 46 of Waldorf and Vishnu Shalchendia Pandit, 61 of North Potomac.
