Teens injured, flee after crash

TANEYTOWN, Md. - A 17-year old is in critical condition and his friends are lucky to be alive after the car they were riding in crashed into a tree in Taneytown early Sunday morning.


Just before 2 a.m. Carroll County Police were called to the area of Diehl Road and Sells Mill Road for a report of a crash.


A preliminary investigation found that a 16-year-old driver lost control of his 1998 Chevy Cavalier and slammed into a tree. Police said that several teens in the car fled the scene of the crash and turned up later at Carroll Hospital Center with various injuries.


A 17-year-old was more seriously hurt and was taken to Shock Trauma where he remains in critical condition.
Charges are pending against the driver.
