A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was involved in a three-car crash on Route 32 in Sykesville Wednesday morning.

The incident took place near Freedom Avenue and Springfield Avenue around 10:18 a.m.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Theodore Pierre Ely, 49, of Union Bridge was driving his Nissan Titan south on Route 32 when he lost control and crossed the center line of the road. The Nissan collided with a patrol vehicle driven northbound by Deputy 1st Class Brett Etzler, sending it off the road.

A third car, a Chevy Tahoe driven by Ziad Bader, 45, of Sykesville was following the patrol car northbound and was also hit by the Nissan. No one in the Tahoe was injured.

Etzler and Ely were both transported to Shock Trauma by ambulance, and their injuries aren't considered life-threatening, the Sheriff's Office said.

The Sheriff's Office said there were no signs of impairment.
