The Mount Airy Town Council voted against a proposal to allow residential gun sales Monday at a public hearing.

Michael Wonsala, a Mount Airy resident, petitioned for the right to sell antique and historic guns from his home. He's been fighting for a zoning change in order to run his part-time family business ShoreGuns out of his home.

"I have submitted a special exception appeal application to obtain permission to continue my practice within my new home," he said. "My interests are acquiring, restoring and internet selling Civil War, WWI, WWII, and Korean War Firearms. The pieces are considered by most as works of art."

After hearing from the community and even the police chief, the council made their vote, against residential gun sales. Wonsala said he plans to appeal the decision.
