WESTMINSTER, Md. - An elderly Carroll County man is dead after his car crashed into a building at the Carroll Hospital Center.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Department says the incident happened shortly after 8 am on Monday. They say Thomas Skipper Jr., 78, had a medical emergency and crashed his car into the Sleep Center at the hospital. Tire tracks show the path Skipper cut through the lawn of the facility, scraping along the side of a building and running over a tree before crashing into the facility.
Tom Jeffers is the Emergency Management and Environment Safety Manager at Carroll Hospital Center. He tells ABC2 Skipper's car went through a window, "There was somebody sitting in that area and luckily they were not injured."
Skipper was taken into the emergency room where doctors pronounced him dead. Nobody else was hurt in the crash. A window at the Sleep Center was damaged and has been covered with a tarp so the facility can continue to operate. Jeffers says crews are scheduled to make repairs to the facility on Wednesday.
