Every high school student enjoys the excitement of homecoming. After Maryland saw a spike in deadly crashes involving teens in 2015, many teens are now pledging to stay safe this season.

Two mangled-up cars were brought to the Liberty High School Thursday to show students what could happen to them if they don't stay safe.

Speeding, distractions and impaired driving are among many factors that can lead to serious consequences for teens behind the wheel.

Each student signed a promise card, pledging to drive safe and never drive under the influence.

"I think it's so selfish to drink and drive," said senior Maddy Lipsky. "You're not only putting yourself at risk, but you're putting other people at risk, including families and little kids."
